ACT

Hello Juniors and Parents,

As in past years, PHS will be offering the ACT exam for interested 11th grade students. This is an optional test. The ACT is a college entrance exam required by some 4 year colleges and scholarship organizations as one of the multiple factors to determine admission and awards. It is a 3.5 hour timed test that includes English, Math, Science, and Reading.  Along with our April 23rd test date, there are also local spring test dates that students can sign up for by visiting www.act.org

Registration:

  • Students planning to take the ACT on April 23rd need to register with Ms.Smith in the guidance office no later than Friday, March 22nd.

  • $53.00 test fee must be paid at the time of registration (cash or check made out to “Proctor Schools”)

  • There is no charge for students receiving free or reduced lunch (just let Ms. Smith know).

  • Time and location of testing will be emailed to students once registration is complete.

Things to keep in mind when considering the ACT:

  • The ACT is not an entrance requirement for students planning to attend a 2 year or vocational college right after high school.

  • A growing number of 4 year colleges are accepting “test optional” applications. This means that many schools do not require students to submit their ACT scores for admission. More than two-thirds of 4 year colleges and universities in the U.S. will not require applicants to submit ACT scores for fall 2024 admission.

  • If a student is unable to take the April 23rd test, there are other local test dates available. Dates, locations and registration deadlines can be found at: www.act.org.

  • While some 4 year colleges and scholarships may not require the ACT, there are certainly those that still do. If you have specific questions regarding the ACT that are not addressed in this letter, please feel free to contact your guidance counselor.
